Stiles & Drewe announce New Mentorship Award for Musical Theatre writers

Olivier Award-winning writing duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe today announce they are to offer an annual award to help support and develop new musical theatre writing in the UK. 

For its first three years, the award will be fully funded by the world’s leading theatrical licensing agency Music Theatre International (MTI), to coincide with the opening of its European office in London, Music Theatre International (Europe).

Stiles and Drewe - who will première three new shows in 2016 - are best known for their scores for Honk!, Betty Blye Eyes and the new music and lyrics for Mary Poppins which is currently touring the UK.

Stiles and Drewe's Half A Sixpence musical to be staged in Chichester

The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye has has announced that George Stiles and Anthony Drewe's new production of Half A Sixpence will run at the Chichester Festival Theatre next summer.

Stiles and Drewe have written new songs which will feature alongside a few famous numbers from David Heneker's score. 

With book by Beverley Cross, the piece is based on H.G. Wells' novel Kipps: The Story Of A Simple Soul. 

Julian Fellowes has written a new book for the production which will be directed by Rachel Kavanaugh with choreography by Andrew Wright.

Ray Quinn joins cast of Stiles and Drewe's Peter Pan

It has been announced that Ray Quinn will play the title character in Stiles and Drewe's musical adaptation of Peter Pan.

The show is being staged in the West End for two performances only on 25th October 2015 at the Adelphi Theatre (home of Kinky Boots). Quinn joins Bradley Walsh (Coronation Street/The Chase) as Captain Hook and Jenna Russell (Songs For A New World/Merrily We Roll Along) as Mrs Darling. Full casting to be announced.

Quinn recently starred in the UK tour of The Songbook of Judy Garland. He famously finished second to Leona Lewis on The X Factor in 2006 and won Dancing on Ice in 2009 as well as the ‘All Stars’ series in 2014. Quinn’s debut album Doing It My Way topped the UK album chart in 2007, and he is currently back in the studio working on new material.

Production images have been released for Stiles & Drewe’s The Three Little Pigs starring Alison Jiear, Simon Webbe, Leanne Jones, West End Frame Award winner Daniel Buckley and Taofique Folarin. Check out the images below (click to enlarge).

The show runs during the day at the West End's Palace Theatre until 6th September 2015. The Commitments will continue to run at the Palace as normal. The show is directed by Anthony Drewe with set and costumes designed by Jason Denvir, choreography by Ewan Jones, lighting designed by Oliver Fenwick and casting by Pippa Ailion.

Casting has been announced for George Stiles and Anthony Drewe’s musical adaptation of The Three Little Pigs. 

The show runs during the day at the Palace Theatre between 5th August and 6th September 2015. The Commitments will continue to run at the Palace Theatre as normal.

The cast includes Simon Webbe (Blue/Sister Act), Gareth Gates (Pop Idol/Legally Blonde), Leanne Jones (Hairspray/Molly Wobbly) and Taofique Folarin (The Lion King/Avenue Q). Stiles (music) and Drewe (book and lyrics) put their own musical twist on the retelling of this classic fairy tale.

Stiles and Drewe met at Exeter University where George was studying music and Anthony Zoology – so it’s little wonder that animals tend to feature in their musicals, which include: Honk!, Betty Blue Eyes, Just So, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan and Soho Cinders.
