John Heffernan & Anna Maxwell Martin to star in Young Vic's Macbeth; casting announced for Measure for Measure, La Musica & Creditors

It has been announced that John Heffernan (RSC’s Oppenheimer; Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell) will play Macbeth alongside Anna Maxwell Martin (South Riding; Poppy Shakespeare) as Lady Macbeth in the Young Vic's production of Macbeth between 26th November 2015 and 16th January 2016. 

The other actors and dancers joining this bold vision of Shakespeare’s tragedy include Mark Ebulue, Thomasin Gulgeç, Ira Siobhan Mandela, Ana Beatriz Meireles, Prasanna Puwanarajah and Clemmie Sveaas. 

Craig Daniel Adams, Anabel Kutay & Alain Terzoli to star in Macbeth

Casting has been announced for Guy Retallack's production of Macbeth which opens at the Bridge House Theatre on Friday 28th March 2014.

The cast includes Craig Daniel Adams (Grease/We Will Rock You) as Macbeth, Anabel Kutay as one of the witches (Dirty Dancing/Phantom of the Opera) and Alain Terzoli as Banquo (Jersey Boys/Farragut North). 

This three-week run is the work of creative husband-and-wife team Guy Retallack and Rachel Tucker. 

Guy has worked on productions spanning all manner of genres, including the Richard III, set in 1960s East End, while Rachel has starred in a number of West End shows, including We Will Rock You and Wicked.

There has been no shortage of high profile Macbeth productions this year. Back in February I attended press night of Jamie Lloyd's futuristic production of Macbeth which opened his Trafalgar Transformed season at Trafalgar Studios and Kenneth Branagh is currently co-directing and starring in a production at the Manchester International Festival. However, no production could be as atmospheric and as special as Macbeth at Shakespeare's Globe theatre.

NT Live announces live broadcasts of Othello, Macbeth, Coriolanus & War Horse

Last week Peter Morgan's Olivier Award-winning new play The Audience was broadcast around the wold. The play was seen by nearly 30,000 people in North America and nearly 80,000 people in the UK - the largest audience ever for a live broadcast from National Theatre Live.

Following this success,  many encore screening have been added with some further dates yet to be announced. In North America, there are currently 700 screenings scheduled and in the UK nearly 800 screenings will take place - the largest number of screenings for a National Theatre Live broadcast in both North America and the UK ever.
