Rory O'Malley is taking over from Jonathan Groff as King George in the Broadway production of Hamilton.
O'Malley will play his first performance at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre on 11th April. Groff leaves the show on 9th April to film new Netflix drama Mindhunter.
O'Malley recently played Elder McKinley in The Book of Mormon on Broadway, for which he received Tony and Drama Desk nominations. He has also appeared in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on Broadway whilst his off-Broadway credits include: Nobody Loves You and Little Miss Sunshine.
Hamilton is directed by Thomas Kail with book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show opened on Broadway last year to tremendous acclaim and is currently sold out for the rest of the year.
The Broadway cast includes Miranda in the title role with Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis De Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Javier Muñoz as alternate Hamilton.
Two additional U.S. productions of Hamilton have already been announced. It was recently reported that the show will open at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London in 2017.
