Andrew Rannells temporarily taking over from Jonathan Groff in Hamilton

It has been announced that Andrew Rannells will temporarily take over as King George in Hamilton on Broadway.

Rannells will star in the show for a limited run between 27th October and 29th November 2015 whilst Jonathan Groff films Looking. Groff will return to the musical, which runs at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, on 1st December 2015.

Rannells won a Tony Award for creating the role of Elder Price in The Book of Mormon. His Broadway credits also include: Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Jersey Boys and Hairspray. 

Directed by Thomas Kail, Hamilton has book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda who also stars in the show as the title character. The current cast includes: Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis De Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Javier Muñoz as Hamilton alternate.

It was recently reported that Hamilton could open in the West End in 2017.
