Last month Baz Bamigboye revealed that producer Sonia Friedman is bringing Dreamgirls to the West End. It was also reported that The Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw will direct the musical's West End premiere.
Dreamgirls could open in the West End in 2016 or 2017, but it is still "very early days". Dreamgirls opened on Broadway in 1981 and was later adapted into a hugely successful film starring Jennifer Hudson (pictured above); however, the musical has never made it to the West End.
Bamigboye has now announced that Friedman, Nicholaw and casting director Pippa Ailion are holding open auditions for the West End premiere of Dreamgirls next month. The team are looking for "black and mixed race singers with strong soul/pop voices for lead roles in the show".
Open auditions will take place on 5th May 2015 at Glasshill Studios in SE1 between 10am and 1.30pm. Auditionees should take a CV, photo and sheet music.
