Fat Git Theatre presents Winky, a smart and very entertaining satire on today's self-help culture by George Saunders.

Self-help speaker Tom Rogers, a life coach and author of 'The Seminars' (played brilliantly by Edward Davis), reveals the philosophy behind his book. Toms tells us that "if you are losing, chances are someone is crapping in your oatmeal and you are letting them." He uses oatmeal as a metaphor for your soul when you were born "perfect, happy and good". Needless to say he leaves the audience in stitches.

As the play moves forward with an almost Brechtian style, we watch the life of Neil Yaniky (played by Joe Boylan) unfold through the use of this philosophy to help him get rid of his strange very religious sister Winky (played beautifully by Amy Tobias).

With the use of mantras and a new vision we watch the reality of what actually happens which is not only very funny but also, at times, heartbreaking. With such a strong cast and clever story telling technique, the audience are able to sit back and think about the issues raised.

Winky will have you laughing out loud before leaving you with something to think about; it is a superbly acted rare find. Highly recommended!
