Who should be cast in the Wicked movie?

After years of rumours and speculation... innuendo... outuendo... last month a release date was finally announced for Universal's film adaptation of Wicked. 

With the right casting the film as potential to be huge and, although the release may be three years away, all sorts of names have already been thrown into the mix. It goes without saying that we'd love a cast of Broadway and West End stars, but we realise that isn't going to be the case. With some help from readers on social media, we've but together the following dream casting...

Wicked movie to be released in 2019

After years of rumours and speculation... innuendo... outuendo... a release date has finally been set for Universal's film adaptation of Wicked!

Universal Studios have said the film will be released on 20th December 2019. As previously rumored the film will be helmed by Stephen Daldry. 

Based on Gregory Maguire's book, writer Winnie Holzman and composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz, will reunite for the film adaptation.

Idina Menzel wants Wicked Movie role

Idina Menzel has revealed to Digital Spy that she would like to be a part of the movie adaptation of Wicked which is in development at Universal Pictures.

"If I could be a pat of it in some way that would be great," Menzel said. "But I already feel like I received, and continue to receive, the gifts from Wicked and how it affects audiences."

Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson revealed last year that the Wicked movie was a high priority for the studio, despite not having been officially greenlit. 

Based on Gregory Maguire's novel, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz. Menzel was the first actress to play Elphaba on Broadway and in the West End.
