The reputation of Conor McPherson’s 1997 play The Weir precedes it, having had successful runs in London and on Broadway and earning the author an Olivier for best play in 1999. Now last year’s sell-out Donmar Warehouse production, directed by Josie Rourke, gets a West End transfer and proves the 17-year-old work is still in fine fettle indeed.

It has been confirmed that the Donmar Warehouse's production of The Weir will transfer to the West End next year. 

The production will open at the Wyndham’s Theatre on Wednesday 22nd January 2014 (previews from 16th January), running until 19th April 2013, with the original cast (Risteárd Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O’Hanlon) reprising their roles. 

Directed by Josie Rourke, this marks the first West End transfer from the Donmar since her appointment as Artistic Director. The Weir sold out at the Donmar during its eight week run earlier this year.

Following a recent run of Conor McPherson’s contemporary classic, The Weir, The Donmar Warehouse is currently hosting the world premiere of McPherson’s new play, The Night Alive. The Irish playwright has also directed the production which features a rock solid cast who are hard to fault. I love the bluntness of McPherson’s writing which is both funny and gruesomely intense in places.
