Curious Incident announces new West End cast

Joseph Ayre is set to make his West End debut as Christopher Boone in the West End production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Ayre will play his first performance at the Gielgud Theatre on 20th June 2016. 

Also joining the cast are Jo Castleton, Sarah Stanley, Amanda Posener, Ross Waiton, Matthew Trevannion, Gemma Knight Jones, David Nellist, Thomas Dennis, Charleen Qwaye, Philip Stewart and Matt Wilman.

Current cast members Nicholas Tennant, Jacqueline Clarke and Penelope McGhie will continue in their roles. The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is currently booking to 31st January 2017.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time announces Broadway closure

The National Theatre's production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has announced its Broadway closure.

The show, which continues to run in the West End at the Gielgud Theatre, will close at New York's Barrymore Theatre on 4th September 2016. The production will have played 23 previews and 800 regular performances.

Curious Incident extends West End booking to October 2016

The National Theatre's production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time has extended its West End booking period at the Gielgud Theatre to 29th October 2016. 

Curious Incident premiered at the National Theatre in August 2012, transferred to the West End's Apollo Theatre in March 2013 before moving to the Gielgud in July 2014. 

The cast is currently led by West End Frame Award winner Sion Daniel Young as Christopher Boone who stars alongside Rebecca Lacey as Siobhan, Nicolas Tennant as Ed, Mary Stockley as Judy, Jacqueline Clarke as Mrs Alexander, Indra Ové as Mrs Shears, Stephen Beckett as Roger Shears, Matthew Trevannion as Mr Thompson, Pearl Mackie as No. 40/Punk Girl and Sean McKenzie as Reverend Peters. Kaffe Keating plays Christopher at selected performances, with the cast being completed by Mark Rawlings, Penelope McGhie, Naomi Said and Simon Victor.

Christopher is exceptional at maths but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life; his perfectly innocent investigation throws up one or two hurdles and some shocking revelations. 

Curious Incident extends West End booking period to June 2016

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has extended its West End booking period at the Gielgud Theatre to 18th June 2016.

The National Theatre's production, which has won both Tony and Olivier Awards, has released over 135,000 new tickets for sale. There will be an extra half term matinee on 27th October 2015.

Marianne Elliott’s production is also currently touring the UK and Ireland until 21st November 2015 and playing an opened ended run on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time welcomed its new West End cast earlier this week with a star-studded gala performance on 30th June at the Gielgud Theatre. Check out images below (click picture to enlarge).

Curious Incident extends West End booking following Tonys triumph

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which won five Tony Awards last night, has extended its West End booking period at the Gielgud Theatre through to 13th February 2016.

The show won Best New Play (Simon Stephens), Best Direction of a Play (Marianne Elliott), Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play (Alex Sharp as Christopher Boone), Best Lighting Design of a Play (Paule Constable) and Best Scenic Design of a Play (Bunny Christie and Finn Ross) at last night's Tony Awards.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which started life at the National Theatre’s Cottesloe Theatre in 2012, transferred to the West End in 2013 (winning seven Olivier Awards including Best New Play) and is now simultaneously running at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End, on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and on tour in the UK and Ireland.

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will welcome a new company next month. 

The West End Frame Award winning Sion Daniel Young (Best Dramatic Performance for War Horse) is joining the cast to play the lead role of Christopher Boone. 

Based on Mark Haddon’s award-winning novel and adapted by Simon Stephens, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is currently booking in the West End until 24th October 2015. Rehearsals began today with the new company who will begin performances at the Gielgud Theatre on 22nd June 2015. 

Rebecca Lacey will play Siobhan with Nicholas Tennant continuing as Ed, Mary Stockley as Judy, Jacqueline Clarke as Mrs Alexander, Indra Ove as Mrs Shears, Stephen Beckett as Roger Shears, Matthew Trevannion as Mr Thompson, Pearl Mackie as No. 40/Punk Girl, Sean Mckenzie as Reverend Peters and Kaffe Keating will play alternate Christopher. They are joined by Mark Rawlings and Penelope McGhie who continue with the company and Naomi Said and Simon Victor.

Marianne Elliott's production gives the audience an insight into the mind of fifteen year old Christopher Boone. Christopher is exceptional at maths but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. Simon Stephens' adaptation of Mark Haddon’s famous novel is funny throughout; Christopher struggles with communication and, from very early on, the audience are able to understand his unique thought process.

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has extended its West End booking period at the Gielgud Theatre to 24th October 2015. Over 150,000 extra tickets are now on sale. 

Director Marianne Elliott’s seven-time Olivier Award-winning production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time can also be seen on tour in the UK and Ireland, where the show was recently nominated for two Manchester Theatre Awards for its run at the Lowry, Salford, including ‘Best Visiting Production’ and ‘Best Actor’ for Joshua Jenkins as Christopher Boone. The tour continues its run until 7th November 2015.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time opened to critical acclaim at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway in October 2014, where the show continues to play to packed houses and last week announced the production has officially recouped.

First casting announced for Curious Incident UK Tour

First casting has been announced for the new touring production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Marianne Elliott's production recently resumed its West End run and opened on Broadway. The first UK and Ireland Tour launches in December starring Joshua Jenkins as Christopher.

The cast also includes: Geraldine Alexander (Siobhan), Chris Ashby (alternate Christopher), Emmanuelle Cole (Punk Girl), Edward Grace (Mr Thompson), Gina Isaac (Judy) and Stuart Laing (Ed). Further casting to be announced.

The 31-city tour begins previews in December 2014 in Salford, with a press night at the Lowry on Friday 9 January 2015.

It's very rare to see a show which utilises all of its theatrical elements, but The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (which has resumed its West End run at the Gielgud Theatre) is an example of a piece of theatre which cannot be faulted in any field.

Interview: Sarah Woodward, starring in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Sarah Woodward is starring as Siobhan in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time which resumes its West End run at the Gielgud Theatre tonight (Tuesday 24th June) ahead of its official opening on Tuesday 8th July. 

Curious Incident is set to open on Broadway in September and a UK and Ireland touring production launches at The Lowry in Salford later this year. 

Winner of seven Olivier Awards, Curious Incident is based on Mark Haddon’s award-winning novel, adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott. The play opened at the National’s Cottesloe Theatre in August 2012, and following a sell-out run the production transferred to the Apollo Theatre in March 2013.

Sarah’s theatre credits include: In The Next Room (St James), Love & Information and Jumpy (Royal Court), The Cherry Orchard, The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other and Present Laughter (National), Judgement Day (Almeida), The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Comedy of Errors and Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare’s Globe), The Real Thing (Donmar/West End/Broadway) and The Tempest, Love’s Labour’s Lost and The Venetian Twins (RSC). 

She won the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her performance in Tom & Clem at the West End’s Aldwych Theatre. Her television credits include: DCI Banks, Law & Order, Doctors, New Tricks, The Bill and Casualty whilst her film credits include: Bright Young Things, I Capture the Castle and The House of Angelo.

I recently spoke to Sarah about the exciting buzz surrounding Curious Incident’s West End return, the first time she saw the show and why she’s excited to be back in the West End…

Had you seen the show prior to your casting?

I’d seen it at the Apollo back in August, I just knew I wanted to see it as soon as the production opened. I took my family, we sat right up in the cheap seats and it was wonderful, we really enjoyed it. It’s one of my all-time favourite books – I even remember where I was when I read it – but this was all long before I even got wind of possibly doing it. It completely came out the blue!

He is joined by Vivienne Acheampong (No. 40/Punk Girl), Daniel Casey (Roger Shears), Emily Joyce (Judy), Gay Soper (Mrs Alexander), Paul Stocker (Mr Thompson),Nicolas Tennant (Ed), Tony Turner (Reverend Peters), Victoria Willing (Mrs Shears), Sarah Woodward (Siobhan) and Sam Bond, Roxanne Palmer and Mark Rawlings.
