A new musical adaptation of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Paul Harnett's production runs as part of the lunchtime theatre season at the St James Studio. The season is a terrific idea, as it seems a waste that many theatres are dark during the day.

Casting announced for Alice: A New Musical

Casting has been announced for Alice: A New Musical. The show premieres at the St James Studio between 9th and 21st March 2015.

The cast includes: Hannah Toy (Alice), Kerry Enright (The Queen Of Hearts, pictured right), Oliver Brenin (The Mad Hatter), Mateo Oxley (Cheshire Cat), Daniel Hope (White Rabbit / Lory), Michelle Francis (Mouse / Pigeon), Damian Robinson (Dodo / Hare / Guard 2) and Jamie Coleman (Caterpillar / Guard 1).

Running for just 45 minutes, the show has been created as part of the St James Theatre's series of lunchtime plays for office workers, families and tourists to enjoy. Alice: A New Musical will feature original songs for characters such as the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter as well as an entirely new script.

As you enter the rabbit hole, which is a ditch that enfolds around the churchyard of St Paul's and through which you must walk to get from the entrance to the first playing space, you begin to glean an impression of the wonderfully magic and immersive night of theatre ahead.

Judi Dench Returning To The West End

For the last 2 weeks you have been voting for who you want to see return to the West End. However while you have been voting it has been announced that another star will be returning to the West End... the one and only Dame Judi Dench! Dame Judi will star as an ageing Alice (from the Alice in Wonderland series) in a new production written by Tony Award-winning John Logan, who also co-wrote Skyfall, the latest James Bond film.

Another Skyfall star, Ben Whishaw, will also be taking part in the play which will be directed by Michael Grandage. The play centres upon an older version of Alice, who looks back at her adventurous life. It is describes as 'boldly original' and if it does well it is planned to transfer to Broadway.
