Q Productions to stage Aladdin in Croydon this Christmas

It has been announced that Q Productions will stage Aladdin in Croydon this December, ensuring the local community have a professional pantomime this Christmas.

For the production, the Waddon Leisure Centre will be converted into a 400 seat theatre space. The production will run between 7th and 31st December 2016.

Teaming up with The Fairfield Trust and Waddon Leisure Centre, Q Productions will ensure the yearly pantomime goes ahead in Croydon, following the temporary closure of Fairfield Halls.

Q Productions is the sister company of The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, established to present professional productions throughout the UK. Aladdin will be directed and produced by Eddie Dredge whose theatre credits include Disney's Beauty and the Beast (UK tour) and Starlight Express (Bochum, Germany).

Dredge said: "We are so pleased that Q Productions will be bringing the magic of Aladdin to the people of Croydon this December. I have been following the news of Fairfield Halls’ closure closely and wanted to help keep theatre alive in the Croydon area while the theatre is dark. Visiting the pantomime at Christmas is time honoured family tradition, and one we’re thrilled to preserve for the people in Croydon. I’m really excited for this special production and look forward to working with the local community"

Casting is to be announced. Open auditions will be held later in the year with Q Productions inviting young performers from the local community to join the juvenile ensemble.

Pauline Quirke (Head Principal of The Pauline Quirke Academy) said: "I am delighted that Q Productions has chosen to produce pantomime this year in Croydon. As a supporter and advocate of access to the arts, I am thrilled that we are able to provide the local community with theatre performances during the closure of Croydon’s arts home.

"Q Productions’ pantomimes are also providing young people in the Croydon community with fantastic opportunities to perform with professional West End performers – something I feel will be an invaluable experience for them. Aladdin is a classic, and I know Q Productions will produce an extra special show for the people of Croydon who are equally passionate about their theatre."
