Details confirmed for Mary Poppins Returns starring Lin-Manuel Miranda & Emily Blunt

Details have been confirmed for the upcoming movie Mary Poppins Returns.

As previously announced, the sequel to Disney’s 1964 film Mary Poppins will star Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt. The film's U.S. release date has been set for 25th December 2018.

The film will be helmed by Rob Marshall, with screenplay by David Magee based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers. Marc Shaiman will compose an all-new score, writing original songs with Scott Wittman.

Blunt stars in the title role with Miranda as a lamplighter named Jack (a new character). Drawing from the wealth of material in Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Disney famously adapted Travers' 1934 book Mary Poppins into a film in 1964, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
