Louise Plowright passes away

West End Frame are devastated to report the passing of actress Louise Plowright, aged 59, who was undergoing treatment for Pancreatic Cancer.

A statement posted by Plowright's family on the Fundraising for Louise Plowright's life saving treatment Facebook Page reads:

"Dear wonderful supporters of Louise,

"I am so sorry to have to let you know that an hour ago we lost Louise to that horrid disease. All of her family were with her. The world has lost a truly special person, prodigiously talented, and a friend to all. 

"Can I thank all of you who joined us in this battle and who helped Louise to have hope."

Plowright originated the role of Tanya in Mamma Mia! and went on to play the role of Donna for four years. She appeared as Julie Cooper in EastEnders.

Plowright's theatre credits also include Madame Morrible in Wicked, Martha Watson in White Christmas, Maggie Jones in 42nd Street, Aunt Eller in Oklahoma!, Baroness in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Julie Johnson in Bad Girls, Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables and Rita in Educating Rita. 

The West End production of Wicked have paid tribute to Plowright. A statement posted on the musical's Facebook page reads:

"With great sadness we report that the wonderful Louise Plowright has passed away after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a much cherished former member of the Wicked London company (and a truly fabulous Madame Morrible) and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. 

"We send much love to her family and friends and count ourselves lucky and privileged to have known such a remarkable lady and talented actor."
