Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch releases first official images

Tickets for Lyndsey Turner’s production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch go on public sale on Monday 11th August 2014 at 10am (priority booking for Barbican members begins today).

The show opens at the Barbican Theatre on Tuesday 25th August 2014 (previews from 5th August) and runs until Saturday 31st October 2015. Take a look at official images below (click picture to enlarge). Hamlet has set design is by Es Devlin and is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions. Further casting and details for this production will be announced at a later date.

At each performance there will be 100 seats at £10, positioned throughout the auditorium. These seats will be released for sale at a later date. In addition to regular performances, there will be four education matinees scheduled exclusively for schools, higher and further education students. These performances will go on-sale early 2015 via the Barbican, with booking details to be announced at a later date.

  1. Um, so is there an actual difference between the preview performances and the ones after the opening night? I’m not exactly an expert when it comes to theatre performances.

  2. threehndrd65, as I see it, during preview performances a production can still be transformed a little. Last time I attended the set of previews, they corrected the script and deleted/edited some moments according to the reaction of the audience. A performance becomes complete for an opening night. After that it does not change a lot. I sometimes see previews as some kind of public rehearsals. Everything written above is just my opinion :)
