It has been announced that Aaron Sidwell (pictured right) and Louise English will star alongside Suzanne Shaw and Paul Nicholas in the world premiere of Blockbuster The Musical.
The jukebox musical will feature hits of the legendary song-writing team Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman who dominated the pop world in the 1970s and 1980s.
The cast also includes: Blair Anderson, Michael Antony, Ami Atkinson, Grace Holdstock, Vickie Hoyles, Alim Jayda, Lee Honey-Jones, Tom Millan, Tom Murphy, Carla Nella, Rosie O’Hare, Micha Richardson, Ryan Ridley.
Blockbuster The Musical will receive its world premiere at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford between 11th and 20th September. It will then tour to the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham between 22nd and 27th September and the Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon between 29th September and Saturday 4th October. A 2015 UK Tour is planned.
Aaron Sidwell will play the lead character of Mickey Block, a young busker singing in present day Soho who is sent back in time to 1972 to perform two good deeds. Sidwell's credits include playing: Tybalt in Romeo And Juliet (UK Tour), Michael Carrington in Cool Rider (Lyric/Duchess), Michael Dork in Loserville (Garrick), Ham in Children of Eden (Prince of Wales) and Jack in Carnaby Street (UK Tour). He famously starred as Steven Beale in EastEnders.
Louise English, who stars as Alice, created the role of Rosa opposite David Essex in All the Fun of the Fair (Tour/Garrick). She starred as Sally Smith in Me and My Girl (Adelphi Theatre) for two years and has played Nancy in Oliver! (Kuala Lumpur), Grace Farrell in Annie (Tour), Irene Molloy in Hello Dollie! (Tour), Louise in Gypsy (Sheffield Crucible) and Bella Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes the Musical (Bristol Old Vic/National Tour).
Suzanne Shaw is a former member of Hear’say. Her theatre credits include: Roxie Hart in the West End cast of Chicago, Bobby in Summer Holiday, Judy’ in White Christmas, The Vagina Monologues and Irene in a UK tour of Alan Aykbourn’s Funny Peculiar. She starred as Eve Jensen in Emmerdale and won ITV’s Dancing on Ice in 2008 before returning to the programme last year for the final series.
Paul Nicholas' theatrical success began in 1969 in the original London production of Hair. He went on to play: Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Danny in Grease, Claudio in Much Ado about Nothing and created the role of Rum Tum Tugger in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. He has also produced many shows, with his most recent productions including: WAG! The Musical and Keeler (both at the Charing Cross Theatre) as well as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (UK Tour).
Blockbuster The Musical features classic hits by Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Smokie, Tina Turner and Mud, including: Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, Tiger Feet, Can The Can, Devil Gate Drive, Some Girls, Lay Back In The Arms Of Someone, Living Next Door To Alice, Teenage Rampage, Kiss You All Over, Oh Carol, Better Be Good To Me, Little Willy, The Cat Crept In, Lonely This Christmas and Mickey.
The show is written by David Soames who co-wrote the musical Time for Cliff Richard which ran for two years in the West End at the Dominion Theatre.
