Described as a contemporary song-cycle, Picture Perfect is a relatable new musical which explores love and relationships using the songs of American composer Scott Evan Davis. Simon Greiff has nurtured the musical, creating the story which links the beautiful music together.

Picture Perfect is the most promising piece of new writing I've seen for a while. With a cast of four, Davis' musical reminded me of Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days, both are simple shows which appear very real and and identifiable. However, I prefer Picture Perfect as the contrast between young college graduate Josh and his love interest Ellie, and Josh's parents Harry and Elizabeth who reach a turning point in their lives, allows different dynamics to be explored.

I sat in bliss throughout the hour long performance, Scott Evan Davis' music works perfectly as a musical score. Melodies grow and soar, but are also simple and stripped back. The sound is consistent and naturally flows. Lyrically a handful of moments could be tightened, but overall the music and lyrics are absolutely stunning.

Strong performances came from the entire cast comprising of Charlotte Wakefield, Helen Hobson, Jerome Pradon and Joel Harper-Jackson. It was wonderful to see Wakefield showcase a completely different side to her voice as she belted her heart out as Ellie. Newcomer Harper-Jackson shone as Josh, often carrying the show with his smooth and refreshing vocal tone.

I certainly hope this isn't the last we see of Picture Perfect. With some tweaks and fine tuning the musical could have a hugely successful run at a small, off-West End venue.
