I Found My Horn

Pieces of theatre usually explore a character's love for their partner or family, perhaps for their friends or job. But it isn't every day you see a piece of theatre which explores a character's relationship with a musical instrument.
The one man play follows Jasper who, after finding his marriage in tatters, realises he hasn't done anything to make himself memorable. He finds the French horn he hasn't played for 25 years and gives himself a goal - to perform a Mozart concerto in front of a paying audience of horn fanatics. What could go wrong?!
In writing the play sounds a little bizarre, but on stage Jonathan Guy Lewis takes the audience on every step of Jasper's huge, personal journey which also sees him trying to fix the relationship with his son. Lewis becomes several other characters, there is no awkwardness or forced acting. His performance is remarkable.
The design is unadventurous, but I Found My Horn sits nicely in the tiny Trafalgar Studios 2, allowing Lewis (who also co-wrote the play with Jasper Rees) to build a strong, unbreakable relationship with the audience.
It's incredibly refreshing to see something so different. I Found My Horn has huge appeal to those with musical backgrounds. I even found myself wanting to brush the dust off my old keyboard and have a good play!
