It has been announced that Rachel Tucker (pictured right) will guest-star alongside award-winning writing duo Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk in their Word & Music concert on Saturday 8th February 2014 at the St. James Studio.
Rachel Tucker starred as Elphaba in the West End production of Wicked for almost three years and over 1,000 performances, making her London's longest serving Elphaba. Her theatre credits also include playing Ida in Farragut North (Southwark Playhouse), Meat in We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre), Mary in Tonight’s The Night (National Tour), Maureen Johnson in Rent (Olympia Theatre, Dublin), Sally Simpson in The Who’s Tommy (National Tour), Estelle Genovese in The Full Monty (National Tour) and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (Lyric Theatre, Belfast).
Rachel most recently performed at the St. James Theatre with her first ever solo concerts, following the release of her debut solo album, The Reason and now returns to guest star for the evening performance only, as part of a three event weekend celebrating the work of the Off-Broadway writing duo. Kerrigan-Lowerdmilk’s short London residency marks their concert debut this side of the pond after successfully making a name for themselves with an international audience as one of the most celebrated writing teams of this generation.
Kait Kerrigan (words) and Brian Lowdermilk (music) made their off-Broadway debut in 2006 with their adaptation of Henry and Mudge, still touring nationally and in 2011, they released their first album, Our First Mistake, which charted at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. Their songs, including hits 'Run Away with Me' and 'My Party Dress,' have found international recognition, gathering millions of views on YouTube and earning them a legion of young fans.
The Words & Music concert, deliberately intimate, is a stripped-back concert evening of music, song and stories, offering the chance for audiences to share in the processes and magic of Kerrigan-Lowdermilk’s writing.
Supporting Rachel is the musical theatre super-tenor Stuart Matthew Price whose recent credits include National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage (National Theatre), The Sound of Music directed by Rachel Kavannagh (Regents Park Open Air Theatre) and Dear World directed/choreographed by Dame Gillian Lynne (Charing Cross Theatre). Stuart is currently rehearsing The A-Z of Mrs P directed by Sam Buntrock opening at the Southwark Playhouse late February.
Alongside the Words & Music concert the two other events kick off with Masterclass on Saturday 8th February. Kait and Brian will work closely with four young performers and, with a live audience, open the doors to the inner-workings of song-preparation, music and lyric integration and performance detail. The talented performers are current students from Arts Educational, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, the London School of Musical Theatre and West End Masterclass.
Bringing the weekend to a close and raising the tempo, Sunday 9th February sees West End favourites Julie Atherton (Lift, Sister Act, Avenue Q), Daniel Boys (High Society, Tommy, Avenue Q), Chloe Hart (Wicked, Hairspray), Jodie Jacobs (Rock of Ages, Evita, Little Shop of Horrors), Lauren Samuels (We Will Rock You, Grease, BBC’s Over The Rainbow) and Anton Zetterholm (Les Miserables, Tarzan) join Kait, Brian and a live-band in full concert setting, performing some of their most familiar music from their latest album LIVE and their back-catalogue of international hits. There will also be an exclusive look at their new musical currently in development.
