Theatre Gossip: Judy Craymer planning Viva Forever return?

During a recent interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Judy Craymer has revealed that she is sure Viva Forever will "rise again" at some point in the future.

The producer said that she feels the Spice Girls jukebox musical is “not just bad, but definitively, monumentally and historically bad." and still believes that the show can be worked on.

Judy said "It was heartbreaking that we had to close Viva Forever. I wouldn't say there weren't faults with it, but I love the Spice Girls, and, when you are thinking about a subject to write a musical about, I think that the Spice Girls have earned a place on our landscape. Audiences had a good time. It wasn't Mamma Mia but I wasn't trying for it to be Mamma Mia. It was meant to be more the combination of Jennifer [Saunders], and comedy with a wink at pop culture."

Written by Jennifer Saunders, Viva Forever opened to bad reviews and closed last month with a reported loss of £5 million.
