Maxwell Caulfield, Faye Tozer and Vicky Binns to star in Singin' in the Rain UK Tour!

James Leece, Amy Ellen Richardson & Stephane Anelli
Casting has been announced for the upcoming UK Tour of Singin' in the Rain which opens at the Manchester Opera House on Wednesday 13th November 2013 (with previews from Saturday 9th November). The Chichester Festival Theatre production will play a Christmas and New Year season in Cardiff before visiting cities across the country.

Singin' in the Rain will star James Leece as ‘Don Lockwood’, Amy Ellen Richardson as ‘Kathy Selden’ and Stephane Anelli as ‘Cosmo Brown’ as well as stage and screen leading man Maxwell Caulfield as studio boss ‘R.F. Simpson’, pop legend Faye Tozer and Coronation Street favourite Vicky Binns who share the role of starlet ‘Lina Lamont’.

Maxwell Caulfield said “I am beyond thrilled to be hitting the road with Singin’ in the Rain. As a huge fan of the original movie, the chance to bring this story to life on stage is something I couldn’t pass up and it’ll be great visiting some of the beautiful theatres on the tour, some I’ve been to previously, some are going to be a brand new experience for me. Theatre work is a huge passion of mine and having dealt with a few studio bosses in my time too, I relish the opportunity to play RF Simpson in this glorious production”.

Don Lockwood is a silent movie star with everything he could want - fame, adulation and a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk…and sing...and dance. Can Don and the uniquely voiced Lina make the transition and will chorus girl Kathy Selden fulfil her dream of stardom and capture Don’s heart along the way?

Maxwell Caulfield is best known to TV audiences as Mark Wylde in ITV’s “Emmerdale”, Dr Jim Brodie in BBC1’s “Casualty” and “Holby City” and Miles Colby in both “Dynasty” and “The Colbys”. His film work includes the iconic “Grease 2” opposite Michelle Pfeiffer. His theatre credits include Billy Flynn in “Chicago” in both the West End and on Broadway, “An Inspector Calls” at the National Theatre and “The Rocky Horror Show” on UK tour.

Faye Tozer is probably best known as one fifth of the internationally successful pop group Steps, who have sold more than 20 million records worldwide and had an unprecedented run on fourteen Top Ten singles. The band reunited in 2012 following a ten year hiatus. Her musical theatre credits include lead roles in “Tell Me on a Sunday”, “Me & My Girl” and the recent critically acclaimed “Tailor Made Man” at the Arts Theatre in London’s West End.

Vicky Binns is known to millions as Molly Dobbs, Tyrone’s wife, in ITV’s “Coronation Street”, a role she played for five years. Her exit from the soap came during the famous live Tram Crash episode, watched by over 16 million people. Her other TV credits include the role of Ollie Reynolds in ITV1’s “Emmerdale”, a role she played for four years and the forthcoming “The Mill” for Channel 4. Her theatre credits include “Alfie” at the Bolton Octagon and “Teechers”, “Perfect Pitch” and “A Kind of Loving”, all for Hull Truck Theatre Company.

This production of Singin' in the Rain opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in summer 2011 and extended due to unprecedented public demand. It then transferred to the iconic Palace Theatre in the West End in February 2012 where it received huge critical acclaim, four Olivier Award nominations, and played to more than 750,000 happy audience members, some leaving the theatre a little wetter than when they arrived!
