Soul Sister, which was nominated for Best New Musical at this year's Olivier Awards, has announced new dates its 2013 UK Tour, including a run at the New Wimbledon Theatre between 19th - 24th August. Soul Sister is a new musical inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner. Following its world premiere at the Hackney Empire, the musical transferred to the West End's Savoy Theatre last year before embarking on its first ever UK Tour.
Jenny Fitzpatrick is taking over from Emi Wokoma to star as Tina Turner. Jenny said "Tina Turner has been one of the biggest musical influences in my life, probably since the first time I heard her singing River Deep Mountain High when I was a kid, so it's an absolute dream to play her in Soul Sister."
Jenny’s West End and regional theatre credits include: Little Shop of Horror, Our House, The Blues Brothers and Ghost.
Soul Sister will visit Nottingham, Bristol, Stoke, Malvern, Brighton, Blackpool, Liverpool, Windsor, Bromley, Sunderland, and Perth. The musical features all the classic Tina Turner hits including ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Private Dancer’ ‘River Deep Mountain High’ and, of course, ‘Simply the Best’.
The story follows the highs, lows, passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina as their careers soared whilst their marriage crumbled, ultimately leading to Tina being catapulted to superstardom and heralded as one of the greatest solo artists of all time.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Tina Turner's combined album and single sales total approximately 180 million copies worldwide. She has won 9 Grammy Awards, and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

ReplyDeleteWe had the privilege of seeing the show at Sunderland Empire on the opening night on Tuesday 7th of September. I was never a massive fan of Tina Turner but the show was incredible. Jenny Fitzpatrick is an exceptional talent but credit must go to the whole cast as they put on an amazing show. I still go to see "Buddy" at every opportunity and I think this will be a "must see" for me in future.
