While watching The Play That Goes Wrong I heard noises from fellow audience members that I did not know existed. Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields' play is fast paced, manic and hugely outrageous. The title says it all - The Play That Goes Wrong is about the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society's production of Murder at Haversham Manor... which goes insanely wrong.

Anyone who has ever been involved with putting on a production (may it be professional, amateur or even a school play) will be able to relate to The Play That Goes Wrong. The cast forget lines, lose props and the stage manager is horrendously clumsy - it could not be more of a disaster. The play is very cleverly written although at times I felt the cast were playing up a little too much to the audience.

The Play That Goes Wrong is the best comedy I have seen in a while and despite Trafalgar Studios 2 being tiny, it was one of the most responsive audiences I have ever been part of. The play strikes the perfect balance between verbal and physical slapstick comedy. Different parts seemed to tickle different audience members, many of whom were left in uncontrollable hysterics and half the time I found myself laughing at other people laughing.

What I love most about The Play That Goes Wrong is the speedy running time. The show is just an hour long which makes it very fast paced; I was sat on the edge of my seat for the full hour. I love that there are  9.15pm performances meaning you can arrive at the theatre at 9pm and leave before Les Miserables has even finished! Genius!

The cast are extremely strong, it must be challenging to perform the show to ensure nothing really does go wrong. It is impossible to pick out stand out performances as the cast work as an incredibly tight ensemble and put their all into each and every scene.

As much as I love meaningful, thought provoking  theatre, every now and again everyone needs a good laugh. The Play That Goes Wrong is absurdly hilarious, entertaining and side-splittingly funny - before I run out of synonyms go and book tickets for an unforgettable night out at the theatre!
