David Hunter, Julie Atherton & Kit Orton to star in The Hired Man

Further information has been announced for the upcoming, highly anticipated new production of The Hired Man which runs at The Colchester Mercury Theatre in between 21st March - 6th April and The Leicester Curve Leicester between 12th - 27th April 2013.

The production will star David Hunter, who reached the semi-finals of Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for Jesus. David Hunter (Seussical, One Man, Two Guvnors) will play John Tallentire in the all new production.  The show will also feature Julie Atherton (Mamma Mia, Avenue Q, Sister Act, Lift) and Kit Orton (Spamalot, Spend Spend Spend).

Based on the much-loved novel by Melvyn Bragg and featuring music by EMMY, BRIT and BAFTA award winning composer, Howard Goodall, The Hired Man is arguably the finest new British musical of the last thirty years.

Set against the backdrop of the Cumbrian Lakes in the early years of the twentieth century, it tells the timeless, moving story of a young married couple and their struggle to carve a living from the land, just as the traditional rhythms of English country life are being swept away by the gathering storm of war in Europe.

Director Daniel Buckroyd has reassembled the creative team behind his critically-acclaimed 2008 touring production, which captivated audiences throughout the UK before transferring to New York.
