According to The Stage, producers of West End musical Singin’ in the Rain are preparing to close the show in August, ahead of a planned nationwide tour of the UK. The Chichester Festival Theatre production opened at the Palace Theatre in London in February 2012.
It is understood that it will close at the end of August after 18 months in the West End and tour the UK from November, with a proposed opening in Manchester. Its tour is set to end in late 2014 with a run in Chichester, where it originally played in July 2011. Singin' In The Rain is currently booking until 31st August 2013.
Adam Cooper is currently playing Don Lockwood in the show, a role he has played since the production opened in Chichester. And Jennifer Ellison recently joined the cast as Lina Lamont.
A spokesman for Stage Entertainment, which is producing the musical with CFT, said: “Obviously, with any big hit show, there are conversations about long-term plans but it’s business as usual for Singin’ in the Rain at the Palace for the foreseeable future.”
"Don Lockwood is a silent movies star with everything he could want - fame, adulation and even a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk… and sing... and dance."
