At long last the new cast of Wicked has been announced! So, without further ado, from Monday 29 October 2012, Wicked will star: Louise Dearman (Elphaba), Gina Beck (Glinda), Ben Freeman (Fiyero), Louise Plowright (Madame Morrible), Keith Bartlett (The Wizard), Christopher Howell (Doctor Dillamond), Sam Lupton (Boq), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Hayley Gallivan (Standby Elphaba), Lucy van Gasse (Standby Glinda), Florence Andrews, Gemma Atkins, William Bozier, Oliver Brenin, Lauren Brooke, Philip Catchpole, Aisling Duffy, Chlöe Hart, Jacqueline Hughes, Robert Jones, Sophie Linder Lee, Tania Mathurin, Marc McBride, Stacey McGuire, Tom Muggeridge, Sean Parkins, Michelle Pentecost, Stuart Ramsay, Lindsay Taylor, Paulo Teixeira, Justin Thomas, Hannah Toy, Matt Turner, Oliver Watton and Jason Winter.
Ben Freeman is joining the cast as Fiyero, taking over from Matt Willis. He previously starred in the West End Production of Legally Blonde as 'Warner Huntington III' and played 'Norman' in Dreamboats and Petticoats (also on national tour). His other recent theatre roles include ‘George’ in Same Time, Next Year (Jersey Arts Centre) and ‘Callum’ in the national tour of The Chosen Ones. He was also in Emmerdale for 10 years.
Louise Plowright who is joining the cast as Madame Morrible created the role of 'Tanya' in the original London production of Mamma Mia!. Sam Lupton will take over as Boq. He has recently finished playing the lead roles of ‘Princeton/Rod’ in the UK tour of Avenue Q.
Katie Rowley Jones is returning to Wicked having originated the role of ‘Nessarose’ at the Apollo Victoria Theatre back in 2006, starring alongside Idina Menzel, Adam Garcia, Miriam Margolyes and Nigel Planer. She also created the role of ‘Sister Mary Roberts’ in Sister Act at the London Palladium.
Hayley Gallivan and Lucy van Gasse will be the new Standby's! Hayley (Standby Elphaba) played ‘Martha’ in the London premiere of the award-winning musical Spring Awakening at the Lyric Hammersmith and in the West End at the Novello Theatre. She also starred as ‘Olive Ostrovsky’ in The 25th Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Donmar, directed by Jamie Lloyd, and as ‘Jan’ in Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre. Hayley is currently appearing in Ragtime and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Open Air Theatre Regents Park. Lucy (Standby Glinda) most recently starred as ‘Eileen’ opposite Connie Fisher in the national tour of Wonderful Town, directed by Braham Murray and conducted by Sir Mark Elder. She trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Cardiff University (where she was awarded the Sir Geraint Evans Award for Outstanding Performance). She made her West End debut in the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, in which she covered and played the role of ‘Christine Daaé’. Lucy also performed as part of the internationally acclaimed classical group ‘Amici Forever’ in the UK and abroad.
The new cast sounds fantastic and I look forward to seeing some fresh faces next time I make a trip to Oz!
