GOSSIP: Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein to open in the West End?

At a recent screening of Mel Brooks' 1974 comedy Blazing Saddles, the comedy icon revealed that a new production of his classic film Young Frankenstein is heading to London.

Whilst details are yet to be confirmed, Brooks reportedly said the show will be directed by Susan Stroman who previously directed and choreographed Brooks' musical The Producers as well as its subsequent film.

Brooks said: "We're going to do a streamlined version. It's going to be in a theater in the West End in London about a year from now, and then if it really works, and people really love it, I'll take it back to New York in a nice little theater. We won't do an over-blown production like we did originally."

The original production of Young Frankenstein opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran until 2009. The original cast included Sutton Foster, Roger Bart, Andrea Martin, Christopher Fitzgerald, and Schuler Hensley.
