Dirty Rotten Scoundrels: Further information announced

In the early hours of this morning we revealed that Jerry Mitchell will direct the West End premiere of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Robert Lindsay, Rufus Hound and Katherine Kingsley.

It has now been confirmed that the production will open at the Savoy Theatre on Wednesday 2nd April 2014 (previews from 10th March). Tickets go on sale at 10am on Monday 4th November 2013.

The Olivier, Tony and BAFTA award winning Robert Lindsay and legendary comedian Rufus Hound will star as the comedy duo Lawrence Jameson and Freddy Benson. West End actress Katherine Kingsley joins the pair as Christine Colgate.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winning Jerry Mitchell in his debut production for Jerry Mitchell Productions, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has music and lyrics by Drama Desk Award winner David Yazbek (The Full Monty) and book by the Golden Globe and Emmy-Award winning Jeffery Lane (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Mad About You).

Jerry Mitchell (Director and Choreographer) said: “With a sensational score and the incredible comic gift of Robert Lindsay, Rufus Hound and Katherine Kingsley, it will be an honour to bring this fabulous story to the West End. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will steal your heart."

Robert Lindsay said: “I went to see Kinky Boots on Broadway last week and was so blown away by the euphoria in the theatre that I was even more thrilled to be working with Jerry Mitchell. I have been waiting for the right musical to cross my path and feel like I have finally found it with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. When I met the writers, they were so excited to be re-working the show for a UK audience, especially as there is a real sense of classic English humour in this production, so fitting for the Savoy Theatre!”

Rufus Hound said: " I am absolutely thrilled to be part of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Having spent much of the last year playing Francis Henshall in the National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors, I know what a theatre full of people having the time of their lives sounds like and now I'll get to hear it all over again. Yazbek's score is both laugh-out-loud funny and heart-dancingly tuneful, whilst Jeffrey Lane's book is faithful enough for fans of the movie, but anchored in good, old-fashioned comedy with smart and brilliant gags. I can’t wait to get started!”

The production will run at the Manchester Opera House from 12th February – 22nd February and Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from 26th February – 1st March before arriving at the Savoy Theatre. Further casting will be announced shortly.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has set and costume design by Olivier Award winning Peter McKintosh. It is a co-production between the Ambassador Theatre Group, Jerry Mitchell Productions and Tulchin/Bartner Productions.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is based on the legendary 1988 film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, directed by Frank Oz. It will be the UK premiere of this new production, which has been reconceived and reimagined for the UK stage.
