Daddy Cool UK tour starring Jane McDonald and Sheila Ferguson cancelled


The upcoming UK tour of Daddy Cool has been cancelled. The production was due to open at Northmapton's Derngate Theatre on 9th October 2012 before visiting Bradford, Wolverhampton, Oxford, Bromley, Eastbourne, Wimbledon and Sunderland. Loose Women presenter Jane McDonald and Sheila Ferguson, a former member of 70s soul group The Three Degrees, were set to star in the production.

Jane McDonald & Sheila Ferguson to star in the new UK Tour of Daddy Cool


Disco musical Daddy Cool is returning to the UK for its first national tour, starring Jane McDonald as Ma Baker and Three Degrees singer Sheila Ferguson as Pearl. The tour will begin in Northampton on 9th October 2012 before visiting Bradford, Wolverhampton, Oxford, Bromley, Eastbourne, Wimbledon and Sunderland. The show features the hits of Boney M - as well as other Frank Farian artists such as Milli Vanilli and No Mercy - reinterpreted with contemporary influences and set alongside a modern London story loosely based on Romeo and Juliet.

Songs from the 70s and 80s include “Rivers of Babylon”, “Brown Girl in the Ring”, “Ma Baker”, “Can’t Stand the Rain”, “ Mary’s Boychild” and the title number. The musical premiered in September 2006 in  the West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The production closed early in February 2007.

The full tour dates are: Derngate Theatre, Northampton (15-20 October), Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (15-20 October), Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton (20-27 October), New Theatre, Oxford (29 October-3 November), Churchill Theatre, Bromley (5-10 November), Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne (19-24 November), New Wimbledon Theatre (26 November-1 December) and Empire Theatre, Sunderland (3-8 December).
