Julian Mitchell’s 1981 play about life at an English public school between the wars helped launch the careers of Rupert Everett, Kenneth Branagh, Daniel Day-Lewis and Colin Firth and now this West End transfer of last year’s acclaimed Chichester Festival production, directed by Jeremy Herrin, could well be the stepping-stone for a few more glittering careers.

Chichester's Another Country announces West End transfer

It has been confirmed that the Chichester Festival Theatre revival of Julian Mitchell's Another Country will transfer to Trafalgar Studios 1. The production will run from Wednesday 26th March until Saturday 21st June 2014.

Set in a 1930s English public school, the play, a fictionalised account of the youth of such people as the spy Guy Burgess and the Communist John Cornford, centres on two outsiders, one coming to terms with his homosexuality, the other already a committed Marxist.

When the original production transferred to the West End in 1982 it helped launch the careers of Rupert Everett, Kenneth Branagh, Daniel Day Lewis and Colin Firth. In 1984 it was adapted for the screen, starring Everett and Firth as Bennett and Judd.
