Our House is a musical inspired by the music of Madness. Unlike certain other jukebox musicals, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Our House is not a show that has just been put together to showcase the music of one of the most successful British bands of the last five decades, because without the score it would still be a strong piece of theatre.

The show, which is currently in previews, officially opens at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich tomorrow evening (Tuesday 17th September) and will then tour the UK until November.

Inspired by the music of Madness and written by Tim Firth, this raucous musical comedy is an uplifting tale of life and love, heartbreak and hilarity set in London’s famous Camden Town in the mid-80’s, and featuring the greatest hits from the mighty Madness back catalogue including Our House, Baggy Trousers, My Girl, Driving in My Car, The Wings of a Dove, Night Boat to Cairo and the all-time classic It Must Be Love.

Alexis Gerred to star in Our House UK Tour

Our House, an Olivier-Award winning musical inspired by the music of Madness, will begin a National Tour in a brand new actor-musician production at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich on Thursday 12th September 2013. 

"It’s Joe Casey’s 16th birthday and tonight he’s treating his girlfriend Sarah to an evening in a brand new luxury apartment. There’s just one problem; he has to break in! When the police turn up Joe has to decide – run away, or face the music – a choice that will change the course of his life, and his love, forever."

Interview: Alexis Gerred, starring in Rooms at the Finborough Theatre

Alexis Gerred recently starred as Bobby in the West End and Touring productions of Dreamboats and Petticoats. He has also won acclaim for his performance in the title role of Dirty White Boy: Tales of Soho at Trafalgar Studios. Alexis was a runner-up in Eurovision: Your Country Needs You for the BBC in 2010. 

Alexis chats to West End Frame about starring as Ian Wallace in the European premiere of Rooms at the Finborough Theatre. 

You are now in your final week of Rooms, have you enjoyed the run? 

Oh yes! A lot of performances have been completely sold out and we had a few standing ovations as well as some really lovely reviews. It’s a two hander so I’m starting to feel tired but I’m still loving every second. As well as being exhausting it is also a really fun show to do and it’s right up my alley being a rock musical! 

So is that what attracted you to the role? 

Yes, as soon as I saw the word rock in the title I knew I was interested. I went to the first audition and the rest is history!
