Imelda Staunton to star in West End production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Following reports in June, it has been confirmed that Imelda Staunton will star as Martha in a new West End production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

Following the closure of Sunny Afternoon, the play will open at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 9th March (previews from 22nd February) for a limited run to 27th May 2017.

James Macdonald will direct the production which is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions whilst Conleth Hill will star opposite Staunton as George.

Earlier this year Staunton won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Mama Rose in Gypsy which transferred to the Savoy Theatre following its run at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Baz Bamigboye previously claimed plans were "well advanced" for Gypsy to transfer to Broadway with Staunton in 2018.
