We're delighted to announce that Rachelle Ann Go has won West End Frame's 2016 Best Performance of a Song award for her rendition of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ in Les Miserables.
Speaking to West End Frame, Ann Go said: "Wow! Thank you West End Frame! I'd like to thank all those who voted for me. It's an honour to be performing and appreciated here in beautiful London's West End. I owe this great award to you, guys!
"And to the whole Les Miserables company, thank you for being so amazing and for all the support and encouragement! What a dream come true to be part of this phenomenal long running show. I am so blessed! Cheers!"
Ann Go originated the role of Gigi in the West End revival of Miss Saigon, finishing second in West End Frame's 2014 Best West End Debut award. She took over as Fantine in Les Miserables in June 2015 and recently took a break to play the role in Manila.
After winning a national televised singing competition at the age of 17 in her native Philippines, Ann Go has released seven multi-platinum solo albums and has appeared in various shows and international concerts.
Matt Corner finishes second for his rendition of ‘Can't Take My Eyes Off You’ in Jersey Boys. Runners-up also include Oliver Savile (‘Dancing Through Life’/Wicked), Emma Williams (‘If Mountains Were Easy To Climb’/Mrs Henderson Presents), Matt Henry (‘Hold Me In Your Heart’ /Kinky Boots) and Josie Benson (‘Enough’/In The Heights). Over 15,000 votes were counted. Click here for the full result.
Last year's Best Performance of a Song Award was won by John Dagleish for his rendition of 'Waterloo Sunset' in Sunny Afternoon. Previous winners also include Rachel Tucker ('Defying Gravity'/Wicked), Tam Mutu ('Stars'/Les Miserables) and Sofia Escobar ('Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again'/The Phantom of the Opera).
Unlike other theatre awards, West End Frame only opens voting for one category at a time and combines male and female actors from new and long-running productions into the same categories (where applicable).
The 2015 West End Frame Awards also saw Matt Cardle win Best West End Debut, Jacqueline Hughes win Understudy of the Year and Sunny Afternoon win Most Inspiring West End Show.
The West End Frame Awards will return next month for Understudy of the Year 2016. Watch this space for updates.
