Andrew Lloyd Webber wants spring 2017 London opening for School Of Rock

Are we in the band? Andrew Lloyd Webber has confirmed that School Of Rock's London transfer has been pushed back. 

Last year producers announced that following its Broadway opening, School Of Rock would open at the London Palladium in autumn 2016.

Speaking to Broadway.com, Lloyd Webber has now said: "This is a big fishing expedition. We need brilliantly talented children who can act, sing and play rock instruments... Our show depends on it.

"If we do [find them], we will open in the West End in spring 2017. So kids, get the metal out, strut the stuff and help us stick it to the man!"

Directed by Laurence Connor, the Broadway production opened in December 2015 starring Alex Brightman and Sierra Boggess. A U.S. tour is expected to launch in late 2017.

School of Rock has book by Julian Fellowes. The musical features music from the movie, as well as new music written by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater. Choreography is by JoAnn M. Hunter, with scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Mick Potter.

UPDATE (18.30): Open auditions have been announced for the London production of School Of Rock.

Andrew Lloyd Webber says: "In the USA, more than 22,000 kids auditioned and we ended up with a band who can rock out with the best. We have to discover that band in Britain, not just kids who act and sing. Our show depends on it."
