Last night (15th February) the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album!
Released via Atlantic Records, other nominees included Fun Home, An American in Paris, The King and I and Something Rotten!.
The show's writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda led the cast in a special live performance of the musical's title number via satellite from New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre where the musical is currently sold out for the majority of the year. This marks the eighth time musical theatre has been featured in the main lineup.
Hamilton is directed by Thomas Kail with book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Broadway cast includes Miranda in the title role, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson and Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler. Javier Muñoz plays Hamilton at certain performances.
It is rumored that Hamilton will open in the West End in 2017.
