According to the New York Post, Meryl Streep could star in a sequel to the 2008 Mamma Mia! movie.
The first film, which is adapted from the stage show which premiered in London in 1999, is the highest-grossing musical movie of all time.
Michael Riedel reports that once Mamma Mia! closes on Broadway next weekend, concluding a fourteen year run, producer Judy Craymer will "turn her attention" to a Mamma Mia! movie sequel.
The article suggests that Streep is "likely" to reprise her performance as Donna alongside Pierce Brosnan as Sam. Despite still being in very early stages, The Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw - who is about to helm the West End premiere of Dreamgirls - is in talks to direct the movie.
The all-star Mamma Mia! film cast also featured Amanda Seyfried, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski and Dominic Cooper.
The West End production of Mamma Mia! recently welcomed a new cast at the Novello Theatre. The production stars Dianne Pilkington as Donna, Mazz Murray as Tanya, Jo Napthine as Rosie, Gabriella Williams as Sophie, James Darch as Sky, Richard Trinder as Sam, Alasdair Harvey as Harry and Charles Daish as Bill.
