Jimmy Roberts and Joe DiPietro's funny musical revue delves into love; what people want from it, how people deal with it and the extent some people will go to get it. Known as the second-longest running musical in off-Broadway history, this was my first time seeing the show which is remarkably well observed and joyously fun.

I can imagine I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change falling flat with the wrong cast; the material is choppy and not all songs would stand strong if it wasn't for this exceptional cast going above and beyond, giving each moment everything they've got. It's impossible to pick out a stand out performance; Julie Atherton, Simon Lipkin, Gina Beck and Samuel Holmes prove themselves to be four of the strongest performers working in musical theatre. Not only are they brilliant comedy actors, but vocals are on point and their chemistry is spot on.

Julie Atherton never fails to pitch the actor/audience relationship perfectly; it's wonderful to see her reunited with former Avenue Q co-star Simon Lipkin whose vocals sound particularly smooth. Lipkin is a performer with no boundaries, his natural charm allows him to go further than most could get away with.

Not only does Gina Beck shine with her stunning soprano vocals, but her fast paced, bubbly stage presence works a treat. Samuel Holmes is a comical genius, demonstrating immense versatility throughout. Kirk Jameson has directed a production injected with fun. The pace moves along swiftly; it's a fluffy, highly amusing and easygoing show. Jameson's production also has a sprinkling of humanity and heart; there are one or two glimmers of tenderness, but a big laugh is never too far away.

It is an utter privilege to see four impeccable performers taking to the stage in such an intimate setting. If it wasn't for Above the Arts' unbearable heat (update: I believe a new air con system has now been installed) I would certainly go back and see this uproarious production of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change again.
