There’s A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis is to receive its world premiere Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
Described as a "new play with music", the piece is devised and directed by John Plews with book by Jennifer Selway. There’s A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis opens on 20th May (previews from 16th May) and runs until 28th June 2015.
Elvis Presley set foot in the UK only once, on 3rd March 1960, at Prestwick in Scotland. The news of the King’s flying visit sends the teenage members of the Elvis Presley Fan Club (Kilmarnock Branch) into a spin as they plan to meet their idol in the flesh. He’ll only be there for a couple of hours so what could possibly go wrong? Fast forward to the 1980s to find out….
The show features classic hits of the sixties and eighties including 'It’s My Party', 'All I Have to do is Dream', 'Blue Suede Shoes', 'Hold On Tight', and the title track 'There’s A Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis'.
Musical direction is by Jos Slovick with design by Leah Sams, lighting by Aaron J Dootson and sound by Jon Raper. The show is produced by Katie Plews for Ovation.
