The Finborough Theatre has announced its 2015 summer season.
The season opens with the return of the Finborough Theatre's occasional TheGreatWar100 series with a rediscovery – commissioned by the Finborough Theatre – and a new play. Commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign, the first UK production in over fifty years of Alan Seymour’s The One Day of the Year – directed by Wayne Harrison, former Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company, and starring Mark Little runs between 19th May and 13th June 2015. Running alongside it, Stony Broke in No Man’s Land, a world premiere written and directed by John Burrows, and performed by two original members of the Number 1 chart-topping group, The Flying Pickets, plays on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, 24th May to 9th June.
There are also two afternoon staged readings of Miss Wilson's Waterloo, a new play by Ellis Jones and Martin Wimbush, on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th June to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
In June and July, Purni Morell, Artistic Director of the Unicorn Theatre, directs the first major revival of Ted Whitehead’s Alpha Beta for more than forty years, playing from 18th June to 18th July. It is accompanied by the world premiere of A Third by award-winning Chicago playwright Laura Jacqmin, playing on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, 21st June to 14th July.
The season culminates with two world premieres. Previously seen as a sold out Sunday/Monday/Tuesday run at the Finborough Theatre in 2013, and following an acclaimed National Tour, Operation Crucible by new playwright Kieran Knowles returns to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Sheffield Blitz and the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, from 28th July to 22nd August. It is accompanied by a new play from the award-winning Finborough Playwright on Attachment Steven Hevey – We Know Where You Live plays Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, 2nd to 18th August 2015.
