Last year The Wind in the Willows took me by surprise and cast me under its spell. One year on, the Royal Opera House's production has returned to the West End and is more transfixing than ever.

Will Tuckett's production is one of the most beautiful pieces of theatre I have ever seen. Bringing to life the world created by Kenneth Grahame, I cannot think of a better show to see with your family this Christmas; it makes the perfect introduction to theatre. The first act is fluffy whilst the second act drives the story faster.
The lighting, set, puppetry, sound and costume design, direction and choreography is absolutely perfect - the production showcases a collaboration made in heaven. Martin Ward's music is joyous and the orchestra sound phenomenal (it's just a shame they're hidden away).
Alan Titchmarsh has joined the cast for this year's run to star as Kenneth Grahame who narrates the famous story. I wasn't sure what to expect, but Titchmarsh is at home onstage and does a remarkable job. The entire cast are terrific, performing the choreography flawlessly.
This production of The Wind in the Willows has universal appeal. Kids will become lost in the magical world, but there is also plenty for all generations to enjoy. It makes a really nice change to see a show like The Wind in the Willows in the West End, especially over Christmas. It is the best panto-alternative imaginable!
