Casting has been announced for the UK premiere of Altar Boyz.
The show ran for five years off-Broadway, playing over 2,000 performances. This new production will play a strictly limited run of 14 performances at Greenwich Theatre between Friday 3rd October and Saturday 18th October 2014.
Liam Doyle (Wicked / Mamma Mia, pictured right), Jonny Fines (LIFT / Avenue Q), Jamie-Ray Hartshorne (The Prodigals / The History Boys), Faisal Khodabukus (I Can't Sing / Dirty Dancing) and Alex Jordan-Mills (Taboo / Fame) will star as band members Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham.
Get set for a foot-stomping, rafter-raising musical comedy about a fictitious boy-band on the last night of their Raise the Praise tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham – trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time. Their pious pop act – including lyrics like Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait and Jesus Called Me On My Cell Phone – worked wonders on the bingo hall circuit, but when fate brings them to New York, will the boyz take a bite out of the forbidden apple?
The production is directed by Steven Dexter and choreographed by Ewan Jones with musical direction from Mark Crossland. Altar Boyz has book by Kevin Del Aguila and music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker. It is conceived by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.
