Rupert Grint is set to make his Broadway debut.
The actor, who is internationally known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, will play acclaimed young director Frank Finger in a star-studded production of Terrence McNally's uproarious comedy It's Only A Play.
Grint said: "I'm thrilled to be making my Broadway debut alongside this amazing cast and creative team."
He joins a cast including F. Murray Abraham, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, and Micah Stock in the production which will play a limited 17-week engagement at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. The play opens on Thursday 9th October 2014.
It's opening night of Peter Austin's (Matthew Broderick) new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star (Nathan Lane), his fledgling producer (Megan Mullally), his erratic leading lady (Stockard Channing), his wunderkind director (Rupert Grint), an infamous drama critic (F. Murray Abraham), and a fresh-off-the-bus coat check attendant (Micah Stock) on his first night in Manhattan. It's alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender - and proves that sometimes the biggest laughs happen offstage.
McNally is a four-time Tony Award winning playwright. He recently celebrated the premiere of his 20th Broadway production, Mothers and Sons, which marks his 50th year on Broadway. Mothers and Sons, which was nominated for Best Play at the 2014 Tony Awards, concludes its Broadway run this Sunday (22nd June) at the Golden Theatre.
Grint made his West End debut last November in Jez Butterworth’s Mojo at the Harold Pinter Theatre. He starred alongside Brendan Coyle, Daniel Mays, Colin Morgan, Ben Whishaw and Tom Rhys Harries in the successful production which extended its run.
