Noël Coward’s Private Lives returns to cinemas

CinemaLive and Digital Theatre have announced that, due to huge demand, Noël Coward’s Private Lives starring Toby Stephens and Anna Chancellor will return to UK cinemas for a very limited release, including 76 participating Cineworld ‘Take 2’ cinemas on Thursday 20th March 2014.

This is the first time Cineworld have released an event cinema production under their ‘Take 2’ strand, which brings some of the year's biggest films back to cinemas.

Noël Coward’s Private Lives was captured in High Definition by Digital Theatre live at the Gielgud Theatre in September 2013 and distributed to cinemas around the world by CinemaLive. The production was screened in UK cinemas from 6th February this year.

Rachael Castell, Head of Cinema and Screenings at Digital Theatre said: “The nationwide screening of Private Lives reached number three at the UK and Ireland box office on the day of its release, so it’s wonderful the British public have another opportunity to watch the production at their local cinema. Enabling greater access to acclaimed theatre is what our West End Theatre Series is all about, and it’s a privilege to be able to bring Jonathan Kent’s production of Noël Coward’s Private Lives to a growing audience.”

Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Noël Coward’s Private Lives, directed by Jonathan Kent, is the second production to be distributed as part of the West End Theatre Series and follows Maria Friedman’s production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Merrily We Roll Along.

A partnership between Digital Theatre and CinemaLive, the West End Theatre Series marks the first time that productions from the West End’s leading commercial theatre producers are available in High Definition as a global cinema series.

Following unanimous critical acclaim and a sell-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, a West End transfer to the Gielgud Theatre and a hugely successful nationwide event cinema release - which sold out in many cinemas throughout the UK - the popularity of Noël Coward’s dazzling and irresistible comedy, Private Lives shows that he still has the power to thrill, provoke and delight.

Toby Stephens and Anna Chancellor are joined in the cast by Anthony Calf as Victor Prynne, Anna-Louise Plowman as Sibyl Chase and Sue Kelvin as Louise. Private Lives has design by Anthony Ward, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Paul Groothuis and music by Matthew Scott.

Screenings of Noël Coward’s Private Lives continue at select cinemas. See ‘Take 2’ at participating Cineworld cinemas nationwide on Thursday 20 March. Tickets are on sale now.
