Declan Bennett, who plays Guy in the West End production of Once, dropped in to visit Arthur Darvill and Joanna Christie who play Guy and Girl in the Broadway production during a visit to New York last Friday (6th December). They met on the show's onstage bar at the Bernard B. Jacob’s Theatre where they swapped anecdotes about performing on both sides of the Atlantic in the musical which is based on the 2007 Academy Award winning film.

Once was originally developed at the American Repertory Theater (Cambridge, Massachusetts) in April 2011. A developmental run of Once at New York Theatre Workshop began performances in November 2011. The production went on to break box office records and concluded a sold out engagement including a two week extension. Once won the 2013 Grammy award for Best Musical Theatre album.

The film was written and directed by John Carney and starred Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglováwho. The Oscar winning independent Irish film was shot in 17 days and was made for $150,000. It went on to gross $20m worldwide becoming a critically acclaimed international smash hit.

The West End production of Once continues at the Phoenix Theatre with bookings currently to 31 May 2014. Click here to book tickets (no booking fee offer).

The Broadway production of Once continues at the Bernard B. Jacob’s Theatre and the North American tour began this Autumn.
