Avenue Q wins 'London Fringe Production of the Year' Award

Ovation's production of Avenue Q  has won West End Frame's 'London Fringe Production of the Year' Award, voted for by the theatregoing public.

Speaking to West End Frame, Ovation's John and Katie Plews said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised by West End Frame and would like to say a massive thank you to all who saw Avenue Q and voted for us”.

The adult Sesame Street-style show, written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, ran at fringe theatre Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate between May and June this year. Ovation are Upstairs at the Gatehouse's in-house company who produce several shows each year. Their latest production, the fringe premiere of Kiss Me Kate, officially opened earlier this week to rave reviews.

Alice in Wonderland (St Paul’s Church) comes second and Rent (Tabard Theatre) comes third. Click here for the full result.

The other nominees included: Another Way (Cockpit Theatre), Bare (Union Theatre), Chess (Union Theatre), Cross Purpose (King's Head Theatre), Rooms (Finborough Theatre), Sleeping Arrangements (Landor Theatre), The Play That Goes Wrong (Old Red Lion Theatre), Titanic (Southwark Playhouse) and [title of show] (Landor Theatre).

We would like to congratulate all nominated productions and thank all those who supported London's fringe theatre throughout the voting process.

London Fringe Production of the Year marks the sixth and final 2013 West End Frame Award. Unlike other theatre awards, West End Frame only opens voting for one category at a time and combines male and female actors from musicals and plays into the same category. 'London Fringe Production of the Year' follows 'Best Dramatic Performance', 'Best West End Debut', 'Understudy of the Year', 'Best Performance of a Song in a Musical' and 'Best Jukebox Musical'. The 2014 West End Frame Awards will be launched in February.
