It has been announced that Gareth Gates will join the previously announced Louise Dearman & John Owen-Jones in An Evening of Movies and Musicals at the West End's Apollo Victoria Theatre in December. The one off performance will be hosted by Christopher Biggins.
An Evening of Movies and Musicals debuted in early 2012 with a sell out concert at St David’s Hall in Cardiff. Featuring the music of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Horner and many more, the show has sold out every date thus far and received glowing acclaim from press and public alike.
Gareth’s theatre career began when he took over from Lee Mead to star in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He then created the role of Marius in the International 25th Anniversary production of Les Miserables and went on to play the part in the West End. His other theatre credits include Eddie in Loserville (West Yorkshire Playhouse), Cain in Children of Eden (Prince of Wales) and Warner in Legally Blonde (UK Tour). Most recently Gareth starred alongside The Osmonds in the UK Tour of Boogie Nights.
Gareth, John Owen-Jones and Louise Dearman will be joined by the West End Gospel Choir and Welsh musical theatre actress Sarah Lark, guiding the audience through hits from the best-loved musicals. The is described as "the ideal way to begin Christmas celebrations, with a specially themed Christmas section for the festive period."
John Owen-Jones is an award winning West End and Broadway performer, best known for his performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera. At the age of 26 he became the youngest actor ever to play the role of Jean Valjean in the West End, going on to play the same role on Broadway. He has also released two critically acclaimed albums, Unmasked in 2012 and John Owen Jones in 2009 on Sain Records.
Last year Louise Dearman made theatre history when it was announced she would star as Elphaba in Wicked, making her the first actress in the show's history to have played both Elphaba and Glinda, two of the biggest and most desired roles in musical theatre. Louise's incredible theatre career has seen her take on many other iconic roles, including Eva Peron in Evita (national tour), Grizabella in Cats (Cyprus), Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (national tour), Lucy Harris in Jekyll and Hyde (national tour), The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (national tour) and Jan in Grease (national tour and Victoria Palace).
