Lloyd Daniels was a finalist on the 2009 series of The X Factor. A contestant in the under 25 males category, Lloyd was mentored by Cheryl Cole. Since appearing on the reality show he has gone onto have a successful singing career.
Lloyd is currently starring as Scott in the UK Tour of Up4AMeet, a naked gay comedy about social media. Up4AMeet is currently running at the The Courtyard Theatre in London until 13th July 2013. The tour will then visit Brighton, Birmingham, Swansea, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I recently spoke to Lloyd about what attracted him to the show, how he fell into acting and what he thinks Louis Walsh would make of the naked comedy...
How did you feel after you accepted your role in Up4AMeet?
A little bit nervous but also very excited because the script is incredible - it’s so funny! My character says a few things which are quite disgusting but it’s stuff I would say in every day life!
So is that what attracted you to the role?
Yes, they sent me the script and invited me to audition and on my way to the audition I suddenly realised how perfect the role was for me. It is so different to your typical West End show! Also, I’m very similar to Scott which obviously helps!
People know you as a singer, have you always wanted to get into acting?
Not entirely! I’m not sure which direction I’m going in. I love acting but at the moment singing is my main priority. I had never even considered acting before but it all happened so quickly.
Why should people come and see Up4AMeet, what can they expect?
People should come because it is a great night out and will put you in a great party mood! Also Nikki Graham is in the cast and she is hilarious! It is so exciting to be working with her, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen when she was on Big Brother!
What are the cast like to work with?
Great, we have a laugh! As I mentioned, I knew Nikki from Big Brother but I didn't really know much about Benedict [Garrett] but obviously he was in Up4AMeet last year. He’s… very nude in this which I’m sure will attract a lot of people [laughs]! I don’t get completely naked… but I do get very naked. I just pretend that I’m wearing shorts at a swimming pool.
What’s next for you after the tour?
I’m writing music at the moment so I will be back in the studio once the tour is over to start recording!
Do you still watch X Factor?
Of course! It’s like a family tradition which we've done since it began. I’m so excited for the new series because Sharon [Osbourne] is returning! She’s incredible!
What do you think Louis Walsh would make of Up4AMeet?
He would probably really love the show [laughs]!! No seriously, he’s such a lovely guy!
Finally, what’s it like having such a loyal fan base?
It’s crazy! I forget sometimes because I just think of them as friends. They are all brilliant and we've got to the point where they like me for me, and not because I was on X Factor, which is really nice.
