According to the Daily Mail, the owners of the Piccadilly Theatre, where Viva Forever is playing its final weeks until 29th June, have gone into "quick-step mode" to find a replacement. They have apparently agreed that the touring production of Dirty Dancing, based on the Patrick Swayze film, can move into the Piccadilly from 13th July for a limited run until February. Tickets will apparently go on sale from Monday.
It is not yet known whether the touring cast will come into town or if they’ll re-cast some parts. Another show is rumoured to be "waiting in the wings" to replace Dirty Dancing next year...
Over six million people worldwide have now seen this sensational production, with the London show alone having been seen by over one million audience members. Having opened in London in 2006, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage was sold out six months in advance. The show played for five triumphant years at the Aldwych Theatre, breaking all box office records with advance ticket sales of over £15 million, which made it the fastest ever selling West End show.
Earlier this months it was revealed that Viva Forever would close on 29th June, with a loss of at least £5 million. Viva Forever! is a romantic comedy that tells the story of a family thrown into chaos as Viva and her three best friends get swept up in a TV talent show where stars are born and dreams are shattered. The show features the hits of the Spice Girls and a script written by Jennifer Saunders.
