Earlier this week Battersea Barge played host to the third Singers Soiree, a cabaret style concert in aid of Shooting Star Chase. The Singers Soiree gives the opportunity for 'unknowns', some of whom are still in training, the opportunity to perform alongside professionals. This gives The Singers Soiree a fresh, exciting buzz.

The first act saw composer Gary Albert Hughes showcase a selection of his songs. Gary owned the stage with his huge personality and not only did he prove what a talented composer he is, but he also showed off his impressive vocal talents. Gary introduced a number of vocalists to perform his songs and it was Lucyelle Cliffe who stole the show with her powerhouse vocals, she left me begging for more! She would make the perfect Killer Queen in We Will Rock You.

After a lively interval the second half gave a platform to a variety of acts. There was gospel, musical theatre and beatboxing (to name a few) all under the same roof. The most impressive performance came from Dean John-Wilson who left the entire audience open-mouthed. He sang from the heart and if vocal gymnastics were an Olympic sport, Dean would have won gold at London 2012.

I have never been part of such a passionate, supportive audience. Even when there were technical issues and some nervous performers the entire audience did not stop cheering. For this, credit must go to Jamie Chapman Dixon who has not only raised a lot of money for an incredible charity, but he has also created an event which offers a fantastic opportunity to performers.
