Ruthie Henshall's latest album I've Loved These Days contains a stunning variety of songs which allow Ruthie to showcase an incredible amount of versatility. Paul Scofield and Lewis Andrews' arrangements successfully reinvent some classic songs.

The first track, Beatles song A Hard Day’s Night, is without doubt my favourite on the album. The song begins with Ruthie almost teasing listeners with her incredible voice, the gentle build-up is tremendous. The song has such a distinctive sound which I would like to have heard more of on the album.

Next Ruthie takes on the iconic musical theatre song Don’t Rain On My Parade, from the 1964 musical Funny Girl. The orchestrations sound a little robotic at first but yet again Ruthie's belt dazzles. Her voice is incredibly expressive; if I close my eyes I can imagine her performing each song. She always sings from deep within, with an incredible amount of feeling and emotion.

Songs including Both Sides Now and Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) are so soft and delicate. Ruthie sings  these songs simply, proving that less can sometimes be more. Both songs are beautiful and very touching. Adelaide's Lament from Guys and Girls reminds us what a fantastic character actress Ruthie is.

I was delighted to learn Ruthie had recorded a version of Electricity from Billy Elliot. The song is usually sung in the musical by a young boy so I was intrigued to hear Ruthie sing it... and I was not left disappointed! Ruthie completely reinvents the meaning of the song, creating quite a nostalgic atmosphere. Electricity is one of those songs where, if you really listen, you become lost in the music and lyrics completely forgetting where you are and what you are meant to be doing. Absolutely stunning.

Once again Ruthie teases listeners with her effortless vocals during Blizzard Of Lies. It is amazing how she sings so many classic songs as if they were written for her - is there anything she can't do?! As the album comes to a close, Ruthie's recording of Send In The Clowns will make you freeze and listen. The stripped back song is also stunning and once again Ruthie sings every single word from the heart.

I've Loved These Days brings back that wonderful old classic style of music with a new magically enchanting twist. If you love musical theatre you must buy this album to add to your collection.

I've Loved These days is out now and can be purchased from Amazon or www.threepinproductions.com.
