The Rocky Horror Show (UK Tour)
New Wimbledon Theatre
Reviewed on Monday 21st January 2013 (Media Night)

"The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancĂ©e Janet, two squeaky clean college kids, who meet Dr Frank’n’Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house whilst on their way to visit their former college professor. It proves to be an adventure they’ll never forget."
From beginning to end the Rocky Horror Show is completely outrageous and manages to break just about every single rule of traditional musical theatre. It is hard to believe this is the show's 40th anniversary tour as it feels so fresh. The audience lapped up this tremendously shocking musical and I loved that so many people still dress up to see the show. The entire audience laughed until they cried (myself included), I even heard a couple of snorts.
This production has been cast perfectly, the entire cast were on fire! Oliver Thornton was sensational as Dr Frank’n’Furter. He put the audience under some sort of magical spell, from the second he made his grand entrance I was transfixed. Oliver performs with class and charm.
Roxanne Pallett, who is better know for starring in television shows such as Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, gave an extremely impressive performance. Not only was her portrayal of Janet good but her voice was sublime! Ben Forster proves what an incredibly versatile actor he is. After winning Andrew Lloyd Webber's reality show Superstar, playing Brad could not possibly be any more different from playing Jesus. He nails the part and his voice is stunning and sent shivers down my spine on more than one occasion. Philip Franks was also strong as the Narrator, coping well with some extra heckling from the audience.
While the Time Warp continues to be the most famous song from The Rocky Horror Show the entire score is memorable and varied, allowing each character to get their chance to shine. Obviously at the end of the show everyone gets up on their feet and attempts the Time Warp.
The Rocky Horror Show is rebellious, magnificent and thoroughly electrifying. Make sure you join the party if the tour comes to a theatre near you... you would be mad not to.
The Rocky Horror Show runs at the New Wimbledon until Saturday 26th January and is touring the UK until September 2013. Full tour dates and booking information can be found by visiting www.rockyhorror.co.uk.
